Blowcomotion was thrilled to host The Original Pinettes Brass Band—the only all-female brass band from New Orleans—for a song share workshop with our band and the wider brass band community.
The Pinettes taught us two new tunes by ear and shared their unique approach for making music together.
Our members got to learn firsthand about the incredible bond the Pinettes have developed since their beginnings in 1991, and how they’ve continued to innovate and inspire one another over the years.
The workshop was filled with creative prompts, like “rehearse the same, but perform new every time." The Pinettes' valuable advice encouraged us to actively listen to one another and discover those magical moments when music flows together. The workshop was more than just a learning experience, it was a celebration of collaboration and community.
This unforgettable event took place at Edward Rendon Sr. Park on Sunday, April 26. The energy, excitement, and camaraderie were palpable our time together, leaving every member of the band inspired and eager for more musical adventures together!
